Classes – Seniors

Classes in college are arranged differently than they are in high school.  You will have gaps in time between classes.  Plan each day’s schedule carefully, including study time in addition to class time and social time. #Seniors

HECA Conference was a BIG Success!

Hi everybody,

I am headed home from my first trip to sunny California having attended the HECA (Higher Education Consultants Association) Conference.  What an awesome time I have had seeing my fellow IEC (Independent Education Consultant) friends and taking a tour of USC.  Wow, what a beautiful campus!  The highlight of my trip was getting the chance to give a presentation for the first time on the subject of “Where families can find money to pay for college”.  The room was full of IEC’s who also share my passion for helping families pick colleges that FIT their Budgets!

Now the fun begins of fighting CA traffic to get to LAX and then fly home!

Wishing you all the very best as you take some time off this summer and with your college process!

ALERT for Graduates and Rising Seniors: Update on the IRS Data Retrieval Tool

IRS Data Retrieval Tool status

In March, the IRS disabled the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT), created to make downloading a family’s Tax Return information easy.  Apparently it was too easy because it was shut down following concerns that identity thieves could use data from the tool to file fraudulent tax returns.

Extra security and privacy protections have been added to the IRS DRT.

  • On June 2, the IRS DRT became available for use on the Electronic Income-Driven Repayment Plan Request. Note that transferred data will not be visible to borrowers on the IRS DRT website or on the Electronic Income-Driven Repayment Plan Request.
  • The IRS DRT will be available on Oct. 1, 2017, to use on the 2018–19 FAFSA form on fafsa.gov.
  • The IRS DRT will not return for the 2017–18 FAFSA form.

Further details about the IRS DRT outage are at ………..

I have always counseled my students to BE CAREFUL what they post or share from others on their Social Media (Facebook, Twitter etc.) because as 10 admitted students to Harvard just found out the hard way, it can indeed cost you!

My friend Christine Luken’s Book is now available: Money is Emotional

Hi everybody,

Let’s face it, bad money decisions can haunt a person for years.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a proven roadmap to follow to help you get out of the mess you’re in? That is exactly what my friend Christine Luken provides in her terrific book, Money is Emotional.  Christine shares her personal journey out of daily financial stress and chaos and gives strategies and techniques that everyone can implement to reach financial freedom.

I encourage every parent to pick-up a copy, read it cover to cover, apply it to their own financial situation, and then pass it along to your kids. OR even better, buy your kids a copy too so that they can make better money decisions in the future and prevent years of regret and stress down the road.

You will be glad you picked up a copy of this easy to read book…..BUT make sure that you take action!

Here again is the link to the book on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/0998591203

Wishing you the best,

For those of you who still need to submit your FAFSA, “the U.S. Department of Education and the Internal Revenue Service on Thursday announced that the IRS had suspended the agency’s data-retrieval tool, a key online resource that, among other things, makes it easier for students and families to fill out the financial aid form known as the FAFSA.”
