Although the launch of the NEW FAFSA is delayed until sometime in December – I want to introduce you to The Student Aid Report (SAR) which is sent to a student AFTER their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) has been submitted. This document gives basic information about your students’ eligibility for financial aid. The SAR also outlines your students’ answers to the questions that were answered on their FAFSA. Since your student provided an email address on their FAFSA, they will receive an email around 2 weeks after their FAFSA was submitted.
When you get your SAR, be sure to review it carefully to make sure everything that was input is correct. The colleges your student listed on their FAFSA form will use this information to determine your students’ eligibility for financial aid. In some cases, the financial aid office at your student’s college may select your family for verification. In other cases, the Department of Education will notify you with the SAR that you have been selected for verification. This is why inputting your factual and financial details accurately into the FAFSA is extremely important, so make sure you confirm the information is correct by double-checking the SAR.
