Welcome to college application season! This time of year can be incredibly stressful and confusing for students when it comes to knowing which application should be used to apply to each college. Then you throw on top of that the various ways students can apply to college (ED, EA, REA, Regular, Rolling) and the variety of deadlines and things can get really interesting.

College applications range from the Common Application and Coalition Application to the Universal Application. Some colleges even use their own application and in states like Texas and California, there are state-specific applications to apply to their public colleges. In addition to the application, it is possible a college will require your student to submit a supplemental essay(s), and some may expect additional written or portfolio materials as well. If you are hoping your son or daughter will earn a merit-based scholarship, be aware that there may be a separate application, essay requirement, and extra Letters of Recommendation that may be required – on top of everything else they have to do for admissions.

Always do your research to decipher which application your student should be using to apply to their colleges. Have them set aside time to identify upcoming deadlines so that everything is mapped out and submitted on time for college admissions, honors programs, financial aid, and to put them in line for maximum scholarship consideration.
