We are just days away from the much-anticipated new FAFSA going LIVE on 12-31-23.  The question is – Are You Ready?

For senior students and parents – now is the time (if you haven’t already done so) to set up your FSA ID by CLICKING HERE – students and both parents need to setup an FSA ID (unless parents are divorced – and then only the parent who provides the most financial support for the student – known as the Custodial Parent – needs to set one up). This is what you will use to log into the FAFSA and to also sign it electronically at the end prior to hitting submit.

You will need to have a copy of your 2022 Federal Tax Return, W-2’s, and the value of your assets (everything that is not sitting in a Retirement Account) this includes this year the value of your business – no exceptions. Read all the questions closely because while there are fewer questions than last year – there are NEW financial details required.

But before you decide to stay up all night and start your FAFSA at 12:01 am on 12-31-23 – STOP and take a deep breath.  Many families are going to try to jump in and work on the FAFSA but that means the system is likely going to get overloaded – it has every year for the past 17 years that I have been helping families compete the FAFSA. My suggestion – wait to start your FAFSA until the 2nd week of January because the data collected in the FAFSA won’t even be released to colleges until the end of January anyway.

And remember if you get stuck and need some help – schedule a Quick Question Meeting with me by CLICKING HERE.

Here’s wishing you the very best as you prepare to submit your 2024-2025 FAFSA.
